More than a decade after the approval of the Programme for Early Detection of Infant Hearing Loss for its implementation throughout the country, by agreement of the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities, the existence of cases not detected in neonatal screening prior to hospital discharge from maternity and the early identification of late onset or acquired hearing loss in childhood are now cause for concern.

Therefore, the CODEPEH has prepared a Document of Recommendations for 2014 that identifies cases of late onset or acquired hearing loss in children, setting out the scientific bases and practical guidance required for the diagnosis, care and follow-up of children in these circumstances.
