This CODEPEH document analyses and aims to provide answers, based on the most recent scientific evidence, on how to recruit newborns for inclusion in the screening process, what information to provide to the family prior to the test, how to improve the competencies and functioning of the team assigned to the programme, as well as reviewing the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of the technologies available for carrying out the test. The development of the screening process is detailed, including how to document and communicate the results to families. Moreover, it is tackled the case loss in the process and how to mitigate it, and it is highlighted the importance of a well-structured reporting system to assess the quality and effectiveness of the programme.
